Anne Sorensen, violin

Anne Sorensen currently is a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she is pursuing a degree in music education and studying violin with David Neely.

Anne began studying violin at age 5 with Valerie Knowles, and at age 13 began studying with Alex Ross at the Omaha Conservatory of Music. She was a member of several Omaha area youth orchestras, including Chamber Strings, Youth Philharmonic and Youth Symphony. She was concertmaster of the Omaha Youth Symphony when it was selected for the National Youth Orchestra Festival in 2002. She also attended summer session at Rocky Ridge Music Center and the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory. In the summer of 2006, Anne attended the Schlern International Music Festival in Vols am Schlern, Italy.

Anne currently is concertmaster of the UNL Chamber Orchestra and the UNL Symphony Orchestra, of which she has been a member since 2003. She plays first violin with a string quartet that performs for recitals, weddings and other functions, and plays electric violin in a local rock band.

Anne's teaching experience includes teaching in the UNL String Project from 2003-2006 and leading the Lincoln Home School Junior Orchestra, which began its first year in the fall of 2006. She also teaches violin privately.

Anne has received several scholarships, including the Peter Kiewit Foundation Distinguished Scholar Award and the University of Nebraska Regents Scholarship. She also has been a member of the Honors Program while at UNL. In 2006, she was awarded the Vreeland Award in Music and was invited to join Pi Kappa Lambda. During her time at UNL, Anne has been a member of the collegiate chapter of MENC and has served as president and vice president.
