Jeremy Baguyos, Bass

John Bailey

Upon graduating with a BM from Indiana University as a double bass student of Bruce
Bransby, Jeremy Baguyos began an orchestral career that included full-time appointments with the Orquesta Filarmonica de GC (Spain) and the Shreveport Symphony as well as freelance engagements that included, among many other groups, performances with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the National Symphony, and the Milwaukee Symphony. He has performed in orchestras under the direction of Leonard Slatkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, James Levine, Andre Previn, Placido Domingo, and Valery Gergiev. His numerous solo and chamber music engagements have allowed him to perform in seventeen states, Italy, and Spain. Highlights of his solo engagements have included appearing as soloist with the Columbus (IN) Philharmonic and multiple appearances at the International Society of Bassists Convention.

In addition to membership in Lincoln's  Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Baguyos is Principal Bass of the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra and Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Artist Faculty of Double Bass at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he teaches courses in Digital Synthesis/Multimedia, Audio Recording, and Applied Double Bass. His research areas include interactive computer music composition, electronic performance environments, and networked music.  He hosts Virtual Music Week, a weeklong festival of computer music, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Music from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and is active nationally and internationally as a composer, performer, and researcher in the field of academic computer music. His computer music work has been presented and performed in twenty states and nine countries with notable performances at the International Computer Music Conferences in Belfast (United Kingdom) and New Orleans and the annual conference of the Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States. He has published articles in Journal SEAMUS, Bass World, and Computer Music Journal (MIT Press).

When he still lived in Illinois, he developed an infamous reputation as a seriously committed orchestral bass player, by going ahead and taking a previously scheduled audition with the Quad Cities Symphony even though the birth of his son was imminent. After winning the audition, he raced back home to Illinois, checked his wife into the hospital, and witnessed the birth of his second child. Although he hails from Overland Park, Kansas, Mr. Baguyos was actually born in Quezon City, Philippines. He resides in Omaha, NE with his wife, two children and dachshund. In his spare time he enjoys biking, cross-country skiing, bowling, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time with his two children. If he had to do it all over again, he would be a stand-up comedian.  Stand-up comedians don’t have to carry a double bass, computers, and audio gear everywhere they go!
