Ruth Davidson Hahn

Ruth Davidson Hahn (Director/Choreographer/The Queen) was born and grew up in New York City and now resides in Lincoln, Neb., with her husband, David Hahn. She is an award-winning graduate of New York's High School of Performing Arts, and attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts at SUNY College at Purchase, N.Y. Early in her career she danced with the Hannah Kahn Dance Company (1979-83) and the Don Redlich Dance Company (1981-85), where she had the honor of being choreographed on and performing works of the late dance master, Hanya Holm. She appears in Hanya: Portait of a Dance Pioneer, a biographical film on the career of Ms. Holm.

Davidson Hahn is a founding member and 21-year veteran of the Mark Morris Dance Group (1980-2001). While with Mark Morris she had 32 different roles created on her for world premiere performances along with recreating and dancing numerous works he choreographed for other companies. While performing and teaching with the Mark Morris Dance Group nationally and internationally, she also choreographed and had her own works performed at notable venues, including the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival.

As a dancer with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Davidson Hahn participated in numerous internationally broadcast television programs, including Falling Down Stairs, with cellist Yo Yo Ma, and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. She served as rehearsal director and assistant to the choreographer on many projects with Mark Morris, including two episodes of the PBS series, Sesame Street, for the Children's Television Workshop.

As resident choreographer for Millennial Arts Productions, her credits include Stravinsky's Pulcinella, Handel's Esther, and Handel's Messiah, performed in New York City and at international festivals in Europe. Her work was also presented at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival for the 2001 season.

Ruth Davidson Hahn & Company was founded here in Nebraska in 2002.  The company has performed throughout the state including shows at The Lied Center for the Performing Arts with guest artist Mikhail Baryshnikov, Minden Opera House, Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, as a featured performance for the Arts on the Green festival in Omaha, Red Cloud Opera House, Morrill Hall in the State Museum of Nebraska, and a performance with the Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra titled Dances From Around the World.  She also had the pleasure of choreographing for a production of The Vagina Monologues at the Rococo Theater to benefit Voices of Hope.  NETV has made a documentary about her and her company for the show Next Exit that airs regularly on public TV, and she was a guest on The Isaac Mizrahi Show for the Oxygen channel on cable TV regarding the solo she choreographed for Mikhail Baryshnikov which he toured nationally and performed at the Lied Center with her company.
